We managed to fit a short break to Mid Wales in this summer, just before everyone went back to work / school / college. Selected images below, slideshow at the bottom of the post.
We spent 4 days at the Penllwyn Lodges, between Welshpool and Newtown in Mid-Wales. Our “Lodge” was perched at the top of a very steep, wooded hill. The location itself was really nice and peaceful, although the interior of the lodge was quite old-fashioned and dark.
Ozzie and Lottie loved being in our “holiday house” and the park had a small fishing lake, with a bunch of resident Ducks, at the bottom of the hill, as well as two Pigs, two Shetland Ponies, a Llama, a Donkey and a Parrot called Sam in the gift shop!
Most of our time was spent at one of the beaches on Cardigan Bay, Aberdovey, Tywyn or our favourite, Barmouth.
Barmouth has a huge expanse of sand, it’s probably about half a mile to the sea at some points.
We got pretty lucky with the weather, it was beautiful most of the time we were away.
Aberdovey turned out to be quite a trendy little village. Plenty of surf shops, art galleries and deli’s. Ideal for the surfer who needs a Brie and Redcurrant Foccacia.
Tywyn is just up the coast from Aberdovey, and couldn’t be more different. A straight strip of beach with a few burger bars, and the mandatory amusement arcade.
Barmouth was definitely our favourite. Loads of space for the littl’uns to wander around in and eat sand. As well as a really shallow edge to the sea, so you could easily just get your toes wet if that’s all you wanted to do.
Can’t wait to get back to the beach….
